Although our Club is still relatively new, our members have so far achieved 8 full merited cats (having earned 4 merits from 4 different judges). One more is sitting on 3 merits and one has just earned his 1st merit.
Merits are important because adults, kittens and neuters of a Preliminary Status breed like the Chartreux cannot enter Championship classes at cat shows. They are instead shown in Assessment classes, where each cat is assessed individually against its Standard of Points (Breed Standard). If the judge considers the cat to conform to its Standard of Points, with none of the listed withholding faults for the breed, a Merit Certificate is awarded. When our club has enough merits we can apply for Full Recognition and Championship Status for the Chartreux in the UK.
As the majority of our kittens are sold as pets it does make it hard to obtain merits for the club as some new owners are not interested in taking their pets to Cat Shows. But, if you think that this is something you might like to do, please see our pages on showing your cat which can be accessed from the drop down menu above.
